Microneedling in Houston

Microneedling is one of the most clinically validated skin treatments we have. The principle is simple: precisely controlled micro-injuries to the skin trigger a wound-healing response that rebuilds collagen and elastin. Done well, microneedling improves texture, tone, fine lines, mild acne scarring, and overall skin quality without the downtime of laser resurfacing.

At MV I use the PromoItalia 1NEED PRO system, an Italian medical device with a 14-needle floral cartridge that produces a more even microchannel pattern than the linear-cartridge devices most U.S. practices use. The serum stack I pair with it - PDGF, exosomes, polynucleotides, brightening agents - is what makes the result genuinely different from the basic microneedling done at standalone facial spas.

How microneedling actually builds collagen

When the 1NEED PRO cartridge passes across your skin, the 14 needles create thousands of microscopic punctures into the superficial dermis - the layer where collagen lives. Your body interprets each puncture as a small wound and starts the natural healing cascade: platelet release of growth factors, fibroblast migration, collagen synthesis. The new collagen lays down over the next 4 to 12 weeks.

The serum I drive into the channels during treatment amplifies this cascade. PDGF, exosomes, and polynucleotides are signaling molecules that tell your skin to repair faster and more completely.

When microneedling is and is not the right tool

Microneedling is excellent for: general skin quality, fine lines, mild texture irregularities, post-acne marks (the dark spots that stay after a breakout), and stretch marks with patience.

Microneedling is not the right tool for: deep static wrinkles (those need filler or biostimulator), severe acne scarring (often needs subcision or fractional laser combined), deep melasma (peels and tranexamic acid usually serve better), or skin tightening of significant laxity (RF microneedling or non-surgical tightening serve better).

Common questions about microneedling in houston

How many microneedling sessions do I need?
Most patients see meaningful change after a single session, especially with serum stack. For deeper goals (acne scarring, denser hyperpigmentation), 3 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart is typical. Some patients add a fourth.
How long is the downtime?
Plan on a pink, flushed face for the rest of the day. Some patients have light pinpoint bleeding for an hour or two. By 48 hours most patients look normal. Visible glow begins around day 7.
How is this different from at-home derma rollers?
Needle depth, sterility, and serum delivery. At-home rollers do not penetrate deeply enough to trigger the same collagen response, can introduce infection if not handled properly, and cannot deliver medical-grade serums into the channels. The two are not equivalent.
PromoItalia vs SkinPen vs Morpheus8?
SkinPen is straightforward microneedling. Morpheus8 adds radiofrequency below the surface for tightening. PromoItalia is pure microneedling with optimized serum delivery. Different tools for different jobs. We pick based on what you actually need.
Does it hurt?
Well-tolerated with topical numbing. The sensation is warm-prickly rather than sharp pain. Most patients describe it as easier than they expected.
Can I do this before an event?
Yes. Most patients schedule the Mermaid Facial protocol 5 to 10 days before an event. The visible glow peaks in that window.
